«Pinacoteca»

The Bözingenstrasse was not exactly known as an art location. Together with Xavier Sägesser we wanted to change that. Where there used to be a nail salon, we ran for three months the off-space pinacoteca. The pinacoteca is meant to be a space for image and sound. A pinakothek is usually referred to as a classic art gallery, a picture gallery, one imagines sublime art in intimidating buildings - in other words, the complete opposite of the small room outside the centre of the small watch-city Biel/Bienne. So there is a portion of irony there. However: In Italian, the weighty word sounds much more manageable. And last but not least, it refers to the neighbors: the Pinacoteca is flanked by two simple Italian restaurants – pasta and pizza. So much reminiscence of the district must be. The cultural discourse develops in cooperation with artists and cultural workers, musicians and other personalities. Site-specific works, unplugged concerts, culinary happenings and art feature on the experimental platform. The exhibitions and performances in the pinacoteca allow the various art genres to flow into one another.
